BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County voters overwhelmingly approved the renewal of a Branch District Library millage for the next eight years on Tuesday.
It passed by a margin of 4,733 yes to 2,788 no.
The annual millage is not to exceed .4983 mill or $0.4983 on each $1,000 of taxable value through 2029.
It’s estimated the revenue collected in the first year of levy will be about $800,000.
Backers of the library pointed out this millage means 40 percent of the library’s funding.
Meanwhile, Gilead Township voters approved the establishment of an annual special assessment to purchase fire protection equipment and for fire operations on a vote of 126-25. The special assessments is not exceed 1.25 mils and would raise over $37,000.
Matteson Township voters approved the renewal of a millage for five years that would be used for fire protection and equipment on a vote of 229-72. The renewal of eight-tenths of a mil will raise over $47,000 in the first year the millage is levied.
Noble Township voters also approved the renewal of a millage for fire protection and equipment by a vote of 95-20. A half mill would be levied for five years with $11,300 being raised in the first year the millage is levied.
A handful of Branch County voters served by the Litchfield School District approved operating and sinking fund millage proposals.
The Branch County Clerk’s Office reports that about 25 percent of registered voters in Branch County cast a ballot in Tuesday’s Primary.
