COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Most of the respondents to an online “Pulse Poll” said they visit downtown Coldwater for dining as well as for festivals or events.
Results of the two week poll conducted between August 15 and 28 by Coldwater Main Street in conjunction with Michigan Main Street were released on Thursday morning.
The poll was designed to give community members a chance to share specific types of restaurants and retail that are desired downtown, gauge downtown progress, and guide priorities for projects and programs.
Over 700 persons took part with 45 percent of poll respondents saying trends in downtown Coldwater are “improving or making progress”.
The poll showed that Strawberry Fest and Apple Fest were the top two attended downtown events over the past year.
A majority of respondents want to see more retail and dining in downtown Coldwater along with more events.
The poll also indicated that a majority of the respondents said a bakery and a bookstore would make them visit downtown more often and that they would most likely visit Fridays after 5:00 p.m. during the week and on Saturdays between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m..
Over 46 percent said they thought housing was important in downtown Coldwater but they would not like to live downtown.
When asked what type of housing is missing in downtown Coldwater, over 31 percent said none.
On the subject of mortgage or rent payments, 38 percent of the respondents said they would pay less than $800 a month for housing in downtown Coldwater.
Nearly 400 of the poll respondents lived in Coldwater with another 173 living in Branch County.
A majority of the respondents, 63 percent, were women.
