COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a request from the Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday to purchase computer software which would be used to properly classify jail inmates.
Jail Administrator Fred Blankenship told Commissioners during their September 15 work session how inmates are classified and how he felt this software would be beneficial.
Blankenship said the Northpointe Classification Suite is designed to reduce liability while keeping inmates and staff safe.
A quote of just under $56,000 was submitted by Equivant for the Northpointe Classification Suite software.
There will be also be an annual maintenance cost of almost $18,000.
The funds to pay for the software would come from the Special Inmate Commissary Fund.
In other business, the Commissioners voted to terminate the County’s lease agreement with the Branch Intermediate School District for use of their communication tower.
County Administrator Bud Norman asked that the agreement be terminated with the new 911 communication system and towers now in place.
