BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – With wind chills expected to dip into negative territory this weekend, Branch County Animal Control and the Humane Society of Branch County have free straw available for animal owners.
If anyone needs help getting or keeping proper shelters, contact the Branch County Sheriff’s Department at (517) 278-2325 and they can put you in touch with groups that can help.
The Sheriff’s Department reminds residents that under state law, proper shelter and fresh unfrozen water is required at all times for outdoor animals.
Any outdoor shelter needs to have clean and dry bedding such as straw and be packed full to allow the dog to burrow.
Straw does not retain moisture. Blankets and bedding are not appropriate since they will hold moisture and freeze.
