QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – On a 5-2 vote, the Quincy Community Schools Board of Education decided on Monday night to forego the yearly evaluation for Superintendent Marc Kramer after he had gotten three straight “highly effective” evaluations.
The action taken by the board falls under the lines of a Michigan Association of School Boards Superintendent evaluation tool which states if a superintendent is rated as “highly effective” on three consecutive annual evaluations, the board of education may choose to conduct an evaluation biennially instead of annually.
However, the M.A.S.B. says if a superintendent is not rated as highly effective on one of these biennial evaluations, the superintendent must again be evaluated annually.
On the motion to forego the evaluation this year, the no votes were cast by Erin Veysey and Greg Richer while Shawnna Craig, Jordan Oiler, Tim Miller, Brian Preston and Alan McClellan voted yes.
Even though the majority of board members were satisfied with Kramer’s performance, there have been some packed school board meetings over the past year over lunchroom issues, school safety and the situation surrounding the departure of long time head football coach Rob Evans.
Kramer has been the Quincy Superintendent since July of 2018.
In other business, the board formally accepted Gabe Frisbie’s resignation as Athletic Director and Dean of Students. Frisbie had been with Quincy Community Schools since August of 2019. He was hired last month by the Bay City Western school board to take over as High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.
The board also approved the 2023-2024 school calendar which calls for classes to start on August 21.
Christmas break for students would start on December 22 with classes resuming on January 8.
Spring break would be during the week of March 25. Half days for exams will close out the school year on June 3 and 4, 2024.
