BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The firearms deer hunting season in the State of Michigan ended last Thursday and the Michigan D.N.R. says over 136,000 deer were harvested by Michigan deer hunters.
There was a wide variety of weather over the 15 day season. Temperatures got into the low 60’s in Branch County on opening day but snow arrived along with colder temperatures over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Hunters in Branch County bagged a total of 2,375 deer including 1,360 deer with antlers and 1,015 without antlers.
Hillsdale County had 2,730 deer taken while Calhoun County hunters bagged 2,645 deer and 1,770 deer were taken in St. Joseph County.
Sanilac County reported the most deer kills with 4,036.
Deer hunters are required to report a successful harvest within 72 hours or before transferring possession of the deer.
