James “Jim” R. Hughes, 80, of Coldwater, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family Friday, April 5, 2024, at Ascension Borgess, in Kalamazoo.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case from California Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Jim was born June 8, 1943, in Angola, IN, the son of Charles and Helen (McConnell) Hughes. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served 4 years during Vietnam.
Jim married Marilynn (Remias) on October 10, 1992, in Coldwater.
He retired from HC Stark in 2010, after 40 + years.
Jim was a member of the Coldwater American Legion, and former member of the Coldwater Moose Lodge. He was an avid C.B. operator known as “Gemini” reaching out to several people in many different states.
Jim enjoyed fishing, boating and traveling. He was a skilled “tinkerer” and DIY guy, able to build or fix just about anything. He was a collector of many things, especially Eagles and Dale Earnhart memorabilia.
Jim was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and mentor. He adored his family and treasured the time they spent together.
Jim is survived by his wife Marilynn; his children Joe of Hawaii; Lu (Will) Howard of Quincy; Ben Rognon of Coldwater; Gina (David) Stevens of Stevensville; his siblings Steve (Linda) Hughes of Williamston; Patty Maugherman of Ft. Wayne, IN; Marsha (Ralph) Thompson of Coldwater; Lori (Darrick) Abbott of Kalamazoo; his grandchildren Brennan Stevens, Brayden Stevens, Mari-Lynn (Ryan) Marquart; his great grandchildren Kolton and Jace Marquart, many loving nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Rocket”.
Jim was preceded by his parents; his brother-in-law Larry Maugherman, Charles Fields and his nephews Mark and Scott Hughes.
