BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater, Bronson and Union City girls softball teams all had the brooms working on Tuesday as they scored doubleheader sweeps in conference play.
Coldwater got into the win column twice after seven straight losses as they defeated Hastings 24-0 and 25-5 in their first Interstate 8 doubleheader of the season.
First game winning pitcher Mya Porter did not allow a hit and struck out nine batters in four innings of work. Maren DeBeau had three hits and four RBIs while Mya Moore drove in five runs.
Second game winning pitcher Mackenzie Searing struck out 10 in five innings and helped her own cause with five hits and four RBI’s. Rylie Van Aken had four hits and scored five runs.
Bronson swept Reading by scores of 11-1 and 10-0 as they improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big 8.
First game winning pitcher Ashlynn Harris struck out 13 batters in six innings. Harris and Roni Bir both had three hits. Harris collected a triple while Bir drove in three runs.
Second game winning pitcher Mya Webb threw five shutout innings and struck out six. Lydia Wells led the Viking offense with four hits. Brealyn Lasky and Braelynn Gimenez each drove in a pair of runs.
Quincy defeated Concord 5-2 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game was suspended by darkness in the sixth inning with the score tied 10-10.
Union City took advantage of numerous walks and errors to sweep Maple Valley 22-0 and 17-0. Brooklynne Schley and Karlie Eagen both had no hitters for the Chargers.
Tekonsha lost to Waldron 10-8.
