BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – All of the Branch County high school track teams were in action on Friday.
Coldwater competed at the Don Lukens Invitational hosted by Kalamazoo Loy Norrix in a meet that featured 17 schools
The Cardinals were 10th in the boys meet while the Coldwater girls finished fourth.
Coldwater’s Jackson Reilly won the boys shot put with a distance of 50 feet, six inches while Garrett McVicker was sixth. Reilly was fifth in the discus while McVicker was 12th. Kendall Austin was fifth in the boys 300 hurdles, seventh in the long jump and fifth in the high jump. Cooper Otto was tenth in the pole vault. Coldwater was eighth in the 400 relay, seventh in the 3200 relay and fifth in the 1600 relay.
Top finishers for Coldwater in the girls meet included Grace Huff who won the 800 and Elli Foley who won the shot put with a distance of 37 feet, three inches. Foley was also third in the discus. Huff, Jaelah Sloan, Ella Thompson and Miyah Moore teamed up to win the 800 relay. They were also second in the 1600 relay. Marie Powers was third in the shot put, Moore who was seventh in the 200, Ava Longstreet was fifth in the pole vault and Morgan Baker was ninth in the 300 hurdles.
Union City was forced to move their invitational meet to Athens High School due to construction issues during the renovation work at Alumni Field.
The meet featured nine schools including Quincy and the host Chargers. Harper Creek won both the boys and girls meets.
The Beavers won the boys meet with 186.6 points followed by second place Union City with 115.6 points. Quincy was fourth.
Union City got first place performances from Hunter Sinke in the 400 and from Logan Cole in the shot put and discus.
Three of the Charger relay teams broke the tape first. Winning for the Chargers were the 800 relay team of Nathaniel Maurer, Rick Austin, Riley Laird and Sinke along with the 1600 relay team of Maurer, Laird, Cohen Burdick and Sinke and the 3200 relay team of Burdick, Malachi Payne, Jason Shoop and Ben Gautsche.
Quincy’s Noah Rufenacht won the high jump with a height of five feet, 11 inches.
Harper Creek won the girls meet with 199 points. Union City was second with 101 1/2 points while Quincy was third with 77 1/2 points.
Union City’s Nevada Gillons won the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the long jump. Quincy’s Lita Fulton and Brooke McVicker were the top two finishers in the pole vault. They each cleared eight feet.
Union City’s Attica Hoath was third in the 200, Parker Williams was second in the 400, Allison Gautsche was third in the 1600 and third in the 3200.
Union City was second and Quincy was third in the 400 relay. Union City was second in the 800 relay while Quincy was fourth. Quincy was second in the 3200 relay while Union City was third.
Quincy’s Brookelyn Parker was second in the 100 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles. Kyha Brewer was fourth in the shot put. Abigail Miller was fifth in the high jump. Abby Tinervia was third in the long jump.
Bronson competed at the Schoolcraft Invitational where the Vikings were third in both the boys and girls meet.
Bronson’s Boston Bucklin won the boys high jump with a height of five feet, 10 inches and was third in the 800. Kamern Bracket was third in the 400, fourth in the high jump and fourth in the long jump, Jack Ganton was fourth in the 3200, Stevie Wilson was fourth in the 110 hurdles, second in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the long jump, Lance Salek was fifth in the discus and Brycen Fincham tied for second in the pole vault.
In the girls meet, Bronson’s Jaiden Hayes won the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, six-and-a-half inches. Hayes was also fourth in the 100 and second in the 300 hurdles. Itzel Albarran, Addison Calloway, Miriam Sanchez and Hayes won the 400 relay. Albarran was third in the 200, Sanchez was third in the 400 and Abbi Ferry was fifth in the 1600.
