UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers wrapped up their third straight Big 8 Conference championship on Friday night as they defeated the Quincy Orioles 49-0 at Alumni Field.
The undefeated Chargers scored on all of their first half possessions as they built a 35-0 halftime lead.
The second half was played with a running clock.
Union City quarterback Eli Payne completed all six of his passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns. Aiden Decker had touchdown receptions of 49 and 16 yards. Andrew Tundevold caught a 10 yard TD pass.
Rushing touchdowns were scored by Rick Austin, Logan Mears, Brendan Labar and Trey McDonald.
Jason Shoop converted all seven of his extra point attempts. Mears led the Chargers in rushing with 89 yards.
Union City had 306 yards rushing and 430 yards in total offense.
Quincy quarterback Alex Barry passed for 111 yards. Ryan Kempter had five catches for 44 yards.
The Chargers improved to 8-0 and finished the Big 8 Conference schedule with a 7-0 record. The Orioles dropped to 0-8 and they finished 0-7 in the conference.
