COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two criminal cases against a Coldwater Lake man who is facing nine charges can proceed in Branch County District Court after it was determined he is now competent to stand trial.
23-year-old Macain Mathew Snyder is facing two counts of assault with intent to murder and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of a serious impairment crash after he allegedly ran down and injured the grandparents of a girl he was reportedly stalking on June 10, 2024 in Kinderhook Township.
Snyder is also facing three additional counts of Aggravated Stalking on persons other then the crash victims as well as charges of using a computer to commit a crime and malicious use of a telephone service.
Snyder was ordered almost a year ago by District Judge Brent Wiegle to undergo an examination for criminal competency and responsibility at the State Center for Forensic Psychiatry.
A hearing on the latest report was held last Wednesday in District Court. Wiegle turned down a request from Defense Attorney Lisa Hanna that an independent evaluation be conducted.
Under state law, the deadline for Snyder to be competent to stand trial after getting treatment is January 1, 2026. Snyder is being held on a bond of over $10 million.
