Byron was born December 13, 1972, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Wayne and Vicki (Barringer) Gallup. The family moved to Coldwater, Michigan, when he was young and he graduated from Coldwater High School in 1991. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Saudi Arabia. He was a journeyman water and fuel systems maintenance specialist in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1995.
Using the skills and knowledge he gained in the service, he joined the City of Battle Creek as a wastewater treatment operator in 1996, becoming one of the youngest foreman the department ever had, and later a supervisor. Eventually, he joined the maintenance side of the plant, becoming a mechanic. As hardworking as he was after 29 years with the city in various departments, he was watching the retirement clock and looking forward to relocating to someplace where there was no snow.
Never one to hold still, Byron was always engaged in a project, whether it was working in his garden, making his backyard an oasis of peace, building a deck, or fixing something. Byron also had many hobbies. He loved puzzles of all kinds, hunting, shooting guns, fishing, mountain biking, disc golf, kayaking, and just being outside. He had a great love for music and had an eclectic taste in artists. It was rare to see him without earbuds while working on any of his passions.
He was very strong and understanding, but could be quite stubborn at times. He had a jovial spirit about him was always first to offer help to someone in need. He loved his family fiercely and always gave the best hugs. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who loved him.
Left to mourn Byron are his daughters, Gillian Gallup and Harriet Gallup, both of Sherwood; his fiancé Deanna Robinson of Tekonsha; his father Wayne Gallup of Litchfield; his mother and stepfather, Vicki (Don) Inman of Ceresco; his siblings, Elishia (Austin) Southfield of Litchfield, Don Inman, Jr. of Owosso, Andy (Wanda) Inman of Olivet, Angel (Chris) Batley of Jacksonville, NC, and Dagan (Erica) Inman of Carson City; his former spouse and mother of his children, Carrie Gallup of Sherwood; former father-in-law, Harry Tundevold, of Sherwood; close friends Derrick Leach and Aleck Green; and his beloved pit bull, Rona.
He was preceded in death by all of his grandparents, his brother, Joshua Gallup, and then mother-in-law, Judy Tundevold.
