COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has launched a dedicated cyclosporiasis outbreak webpage https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/keep-mi-healthy/infectious-diseases/infectious-disease-outbreaks and dashboard to track a rapidly expanding public health crisis.
The state’s total case count skyrocketed over the weekend confirmed 2,640 infections, resulting in 44 hospitalizations across 43 counties.
The online portal provides essential transparency by updating total case counts daily by 11 a.m. , while rolling out comprehensive data visualizations and regional hospitalization updates every Thursday.
Public health investigators and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have yet to identify a specific grower, supplier, or type of produce responsible for the outbreak.
The concentration of illnesses remains heaviest in Southeast Michigan, with Monroe County reporting the state’s highest volume of infections.
Because previous North American outbreaks have been linked to imported fresh items like bagged salads, cilantro, basil, and berries, MDHHS continues to urge both restaurants and consumers to rigorously wash whole produce and monitor for severe gastrointestinal symptoms.
So far zero cases have been reported in Branch County.
