COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) The Michigan State Police announced a targeted, one-day enforcement campaign scheduled for Monday, July 20, aimed at cracking down on drivers who violate the state’s Move Over law.
Col. James F. Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police (MSP) says the special operation will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., deploying troopers and motor carrier officers across all districts to watch for dangerous driving behaviors.
The initiative is a critical response to safety concerns, noting that at least 13 MSP patrol vehicles have already been struck during traffic stops this year alone.
Michigan’s Move Over law mandates that motorists slow down to at least 10 mph below the posted speed limit and safely change lanes when approaching stationary emergency, road service, or utility vehicles with flashing lights. To maximize the impact of the five-hour blitz, local Michigan law enforcement agencies will join state troopers alongside police departments from Ohio, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania.
Drivers caught violating the law face a $400 fine, a civil infraction, and two points on their driving record.
