Barbara Coomes Homoki, 72, of Union City, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 following several years of declining health.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Union City. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM, with a Rosary to begin at 7:30 PM, on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City. Interment of ashes will be at Riverside Cemetery in Union City at a later date.
Barb was born on October 28, 1946 in Orange County, CA to Bert and Helen (Jones) Coomes. The family moved to Michigan and she attended Athens High School, graduating with the Class of 1964. On September 30, 1995 she married Danny Homoki at the Union Church UCC of Tekonsha. He survives.
Barb was a social worker who was employed by Lifespan Hospice of Battle Creek. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Union City, where she sang in the choir and coordinated the annual giving tree project. She also served as chair of the Branch County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Barb enjoyed singing, knitting, traveling, shopping, going to thrift shops, garage sales and making Saturday trips to “St. Salvies.” She was a huge Notre Dame football fan.
In addition to her husband, Danny, Barb is survived by her children, Lisa (Tony) Petch of Tekonsha, David (Barbi) Johnson of Union City and Dixie (Robb) Segrin of Cape Cod, MA; her sisters Bernadine Moffitt and Jenny Slater, both of California; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James “Jimmy” Coomes.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Our Lady of Fatima Building Fund.
