COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A September 26 sentencing hearing has been scheduled for a Butler Township man who was charged with seven counts following a Michigan State Police investigation into alleged child sex crimes that dated back four years.
59-year-old Charles Dee Odette entered into a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors last Friday in Branch County Circuit Court.
According to Branch County court records, Odette is pleading no contest to charges of being in aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and second degree criminal sexual conduct.
He must also register and comply with the Michigan Sex Offenders Registration Act.
Five other charges will be dismissed in exchange for the pleas.
Part of the plea agreement calls for Odette, who is in poor health, to get a prison sentence of at least five years.
Court documents say the State Police discovered thousands if not tens of thousands of child sexually abusive materials during a search of Odette’s home.
The CSC charges were filed in connection with alleged incidents involving two young girls during 2018 and 2019.
In addition, documents state Odette was previously convicted in Calhoun County for first degree criminal sexual conduct in 1992.
