COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Members of the Coldwater City Planning Commission indicated Monday night they preferred angle parking in the Chandler Plaza parking lot, which is scheduled to be reconstructed next summer.
In his report to the Planning Commission, Planning and Zoning Administrator Dean Walrack said the staff was requesting an alternate design to maximize parking arranged in a 90 degree configuration which retains 119 parking stalls.
Angle parking would allow for more green space and larger parking stalls. The cost would also be less. On the other hand, there would be no access from the east.
The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to reconfigure Division Street in 2019 to a single lane in each direction, with a center turn lane and expanded shoulders, similar to what exists on Marshall Street north of U.S. 12.
It’s hoped bids for the project can be solicited in the fall.
