Melvin Niles Albright, 89, of Union City passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.
In keeping with Melvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI with Pastor Jon Bruney officiating. Interment will follow at Burr Oak Cemetery in Athens.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 5:00- 8:00 p.m., also at Lighthouse of Union City.
Melvin was born December 14, 1935 to Harry Allen and Cecile Marie (Morrill) Albright in Battle Creek, Michigan. He graduated from Bronson High School with the Class of 1954.
After high school, Melvin proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from January 1955 to January 1959.
July 8, 1960, Melvin married Blanche “Jean” Horner in Leonidas. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2020.
After his military service, Melvin worked for Scharf Plumbing before having a career at Kellogg’s for 29 years. While working at Kellogg’s in the afternoon, he also worked for Albright Plumbing and Construction in the mornings. In Melvin’s retirement years, he parked cars for Spencer Funeral Home in Athens.
Melvin enjoyed mowing his lawn, golfing, and traveling up north. He loved going to his grandkids and great-grandkids sporting events, spending time with family, and his two cats, Siren and Smokey.
Melvin is survived by his daughters, Carol (Kerry) Bates of Union City, Lori (Alan) Cross of Union City, and Pam (Dennis) Burghdoff of Union City; his grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Bates of Burlington, Mark Bates of Union City, Evan Cross of Union City, Brandan (Jonna) Cross of Union City and Todd (Crystal) Irwin of Union City; his many great-grandchildren; his siblings, Marla Stroud of Kansas City, MO, Roger (Kathy) Albright of Sherwood, Judy Wyant of Sherwood, and Jerry (Linda) Albright of Colon; and his sister-in-law, Peggy Albright of Hillsdale.
In addition to his wife Jean, Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Loyd Albright; and his brother-in-law, Ken Wyant.
