COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team finished the week with two wins and a tie after beating non-conference foe Sturgis 3-2 Saturday.
The Cardinals took the early lead just over three minutes into the game on an unassisted goal from Ahmed Norman.
Sturgis tied the game with 7:26 to play in the first half.
Coldwater retook the lead with a pair of second half goals from Abdulhamid Munnasar, the first with 25:43 to play, assisted by Riath Shaamala, and the second with 23:32 to play, assisted by Ahmed Norman.
Sturgis tightened the game at 3-2 on a long range goal with 14:21 to play, but the Cardinals were to hang on for the win to improve their record to 6-5-1 on the season.
Franky Ramos made seven saves in goal as Sturgis outshot Coldwater 16-9.
The Coldwater junior varsity team improved to 12-0 with a 4-1 win over Sturgis Saturday. Abdulla Hagagi scored two goals, with one each from Ali Ahmed and Maher Semar.
The JV team will play at Harper Creek Monday while the varsity team returns to Interstate 8 Conference play at Pennfield Tuesday.
In other area high school soccer Saturday, Bronson lost at Parchment 4-0 to drop to 3-5 on the season.
The Vikings will host Stockbridge Monday while Quincy will look for their first win of the season when then host Vermontville Maple Valley Monday.
