KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University officials hope to save $5 million by offering a “Voluntary Early Separation Program” for tenured faculty members aged 60 and older.
WMU says the move is needed because of current budgetary challenges.
According to MLive, faculty who have been with the university at least 20 years would receive payments totaling up to 100% of their yearly salary. Those with 10 years at WMU would receive 25%.
Those who participate in the program waive any right to future employment with the university.
The window for faculty members to apply for the program is September 1-30.
