COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer began last night’s City Council meeting addressing the abundant rumors circulating on social media concerning data centers in the city of Coldwater.
During last week’s Planning Commission meeting committee members voted to move forward with establishing stringent ordinances to restrict a data center’s flexibility and the locations they would be permitted within the city limits. That triggered an online backlash from several who misunderstood the plan commissions intentions, and the mayor felt that needed to be addressed.
Kramer said by state law they can’t totally block data centers, but the city can place strict restrictions on them.
The city would be in step with similar ordinances recently advanced by both Quincy and Girard Townships to place restrictions on data centers.
