COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Consumers Energy is trying to get the word out there is assistance for eligible customers who are struggling to pay their heating bills, especially after the bitter cold temperatures of February when the mercury did not get above freezing for 18 days.
Consumers Energy Community Affairs Manager Greg Moore told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday there are federal, state and local dollars available for households and small businesses.
He said March is the month when heating bills could cause sticker shock.
He said people struggling with heat bills should log onto mi211.org call 2-1-1 which is a free service that will connect people with non-profit agencies.
Help is also available from the State Emergency Relief Fund by logging onto www.michigan.gov/mibridges.
Customers can contact Consumers Energy at 1-800-477-5050 to make payment arrangements.
They can also apply for a Home Heating Credit through the state at www.michigan.gov/treasury.
