QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles baseball team evened their Big 8 Conference record at 5-5 on Tuesday as they swept Springport in a conference doubleheader by scores of 8-2 and 13-2.
The Orioles rode the arms of Bradley Harper and Blake Burkhart in the sweep. Harper got his third Big 8 win on the season by giving up just four hits and striking out 6 in six plus innings. Brady Mescher came on in relief to get the final out.
The Orioles collected a season-high 13 hits in the first game. Mescher led the way with three hits and two RBI’s. Harper, Cody Nuesbaum, Karsen Maurer and Kyle Rodesiler each added two hits. Burkhart and Corbin Bethel had RBI singles. The Orioles did not commit an error in game one.
Quincy was the visiting team in the second game and raced out to a seven run first inning as they batted around. That was more than enough support for Burkhart as he threw a five inning complete game allowing two unearned runs and five hits. He also struck out four.
Bethel doubled in the nightcap. The Orioles also swiped seven bases including two from Riley Miner. Economou and Rodesiler ended up with two hits.
