EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate had another drop in September according to data released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
The report showed the Branch County unemployment rate was at four percent after being at four-point-two percent in August and at four-point-eight percent in July.
Jobless rates in neighboring counties went down again. St. Joseph County was also at four percent, Hillsdale County dropped to 4-point-4 percent while Calhoun County was at 5-point-3 percent.
The state says not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates fell in 16 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas between August and September thanks in part to a reduction of workers.
Associate Director Wayne Rourke from the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives says “Michigan jobless rate reductions in September were influenced by a workforce decline in several regions over the month. Payroll employment advanced in September as local schools and colleges re-opened for the fall.”
Unemployment rates ranged from one-point-nine percent in Livingston County to six-point-seven percent in Montmorency County.
