The Branch Intermediate School District’s Waldron Learning Center hosted their third annual prom this past Friday May 3.
Some notes from the organizers:
***The purpose of our prom is to promote inclusivity, allow our students to experience prom just like every other high school student, and celebrate each student
***We want everyone to be able to have a typical prom experience in a location that is familiar to them
***Our students anticipate this every year and describe it as the best day of the year
***The prom has a DJ (our custodian Tom Wright), a photo booth, and limo/bus rides.
***Students are all dressed in their finest prom attire that they bring from home or have been donated by the Altrusa Prom Closet, local citizens, and the Rainbow Connection. This year the overall prom theme is Western/cowboy which our students chose in the fall.
***This year Professional hair and makeup services were provided by Melinda Oxender from “Hair It Is” in Sturgis, and Southern Roots Salon and Spa who will have owner Dani Green, Amanda Farrar, Jenna Sigler, Haylee McClelland, and Sarah Hicks
***Students from the education program at the BACC help decorate the space and attend the event not as future educators in the education program, but as peers with their friends that attend the Waldron learning center.
***Prom decorations were bought using a grant from the Good Better Best Store.
***Parents/families/ friends can take pictures with their students from 12-12:30 then the rest of the time our students get to have time to enjoy their prom experience as any other high schooler would.
***We love this event and love that our students get to have a celebration of their achievements, can thrive, and feel value
