COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Although Branch County remains well under our average precipitation for the year, the latest release from the US Drought monitor does show some improvements for parts of the county.
As recently as last week 100% of the county was listed as being under moderate drought conditions, but in the new map released on Thursday, the northeast corner of Branch County has been downgraded to abnormally dry with the remaining two thirds of the county unchanged.
Recent rains over the last two weeks have offered very little in the way of improving water levels in area lakes and rivers.
For the year we remain just over six inches below normal precipitation and as has been the case for most of the summer and fall there are very few chances of measurable rain in the 6-10 day forecast.
In all more than 50% of the state is abnormally dry or drier with a swath of Mid-Michigan remaining under severe drought.
