LANSING, MI 9wtvb) ) – State Representative Jennifer Wortz (R-Quincy) is voicing her frustration after the Michigan Legislature officially missed its statutory July 1 deadline to finalize the state’s fiscal budget on Wednesday.
Wortz expressed deep frustration over the ongoing gridlock between the House and Senate,
Wortz says that the legislative delay creates severe funding uncertainty for public universities, and K-12 school districts that were legally required to start their budgets on July 1.
She says schools will see at the very least the same funding as was in the 2026 budget
She says the school funding proposals in both the House and Senate are nearly the same.
House Speaker Matt Hall said last week that the budget framework had been agreed to by the Republican-controlled House, Democratic-controlled Senate and the governor’s office without any tax increases.
There is some hope lawmakers will come to an agreement and adopt the new 2027 budget today before breaking for the 4th of July holiday.
