COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – So much for Coldwater having cheaper gas prices than this weeks state average.
Prices spiked by almost a quarter on Monday afternoon to as high as $2.69. This after AAA Michigan reported the average gas price in the state was down about seven cents to $2.51.
That is a nickel higher than the national average price, and up 38-cents from this time last year.
According to www.gasbuddy.com, prices around Coldwater Monday morning were between $2.40 and $2.46 a gallon.
Gas prices have been on a roller coaster this fall. A pair of hurricanes gets part of the blame but AAA also reports regional stockpiles of gas are down. In addition, refineries in the Midwest are only operating at 85 percent capacity due to maintenance.
