COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency says a spurt in the number of new COVID-19 cases that were reported on Friday has moved Branch County past the 3,000 mark for the number of cases that have been reported.
Friday’s report from the C.H.A. shows there have been 55 new Branch County cases which brought the total number of cases in the county since last March up to 3,009.
It was also the most Branch County cases in one day since 57 were reported on December 4.
St. Joseph County has hit 3,500 cases with 52 new cases reported on Friday.
Hillsdale County had 28 new cases which brought their total number of cases up to 2,575.
After nearly seven weeks of declines in case rates, health officials are concerned about the increase in the number of positive tests in recent days.
Michigan chief medical executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun is worried December gatherings may be leading to an increase in cases. Khaldun is also concerned about the arrival in Michigan of a COVID-19 variant that is more transmissible.
