COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A suspect who was arrested Friday after a fire was deliberately set at the Blue Angels Motorcycle Club was arraigned Saturday in Branch County District Court on a felony charge of third degree arson.
65-year-old Michael Behringer was arrested by Coldwater Police several hours after the fire was reported at 3:22 p.m..
The Coldwater Police Department was summoned to 450 South Clay by the Coldwater Fire Department.
A witness reported that the fire was deliberately set.
Branch County court documents state a surveillance video showed a man dumping the contents from a gas can onto the porch and then lighting the porch on fire.
As Behringer was being placed under arrest, a police officer noticed that the hair on his right arm was singed.
Damage to the front porch and to some stairs in the back of the building was estimated at $2,500.
A not guilty plea was entered on Behinger’s behalf during his arraignment and bond was set at $10,000.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for July 19 with a preliminary exam on July 26.
