LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate in August dropped a half percent from the previous month to four percent according to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
The report stated not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates declined in 16 Michigan labor market areas over the month.
Wayne Rourke is the associate director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives. He stated, “Michigan regions demonstrated typical seasonal jobless rate reductions in August. Employment levels continued to display positive growth trends over the year.”
The report showed Branch County tied for the 17th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
Unemployment rates dropped in neighboring counties.
Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties were both at four-point-two percent while Calhoun County was at five-point-two percent.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in August was at four-point-one percent.
Unemployment rates ranged from two-point-four percent in Livingston County to eight-point-two percent in Oscoda County.
